Plugin Pack update

Updating a Plugin Pack may require updating the corresponding Centreon Plugins.

Centreon EMS/Centreon EPP

Since plugins and packs are provided in RPM format, you can update them with the usual RPM commands. If any templates or check commands are modified, the changes are automatically applied during the RPM update.

Warning

We are making an effort to minimize the impact of updates. Nevertheless, some software changes may affect the way plugins are called (e.g., modified arguments). We have therefore updated the associated check commands in the pack. Immediately after any RPM updates, the new plugins are executed by the Centreon Engine. New templates and check commands are then applied to the Centreon configuration, but the previous Centreon Engine configuration still references the old templates. For this reason, it is safer to follow the procedure described below to reduce any unexpected results. In all cases, we recommend using a pre-production platform to test your system after an update.

First, make sure you are using the latest version of the Centreon Plugins Pack Manager module. Follow the same update procedure as with the other modules, and remember to apply the update on the Centreon module screen.

Plugin Pack updates

To update all packs on the Centreon central server enter the following command:

# yum update centreon-pack*

These software updates will generate configuration changes (i.e., to templates and commands). You must therefore redeploy the configuration on all the pollers, but WITHOUT restarting them, since the corresponding plugins have not yet been updated.

To finalize the update, go to Centreon Plugin Pack Manager user interface (UI). The available update will be displayed by an arrow:

Hover over the Plugin Pack and click on the arrow,

or click on the Plugin Pack to display more details, then click on the arrow.

Plugin updates

To update the plugins, stop the Centreon Engine on all pollers.

Update the plugins on all pollers:

# yum update centreon-plugin*

Update the plugin dependencies on all pollers:

# yum update centreon-plugins*

Restart the Centreon Engine on all pollers.

Then check for any new errors after installing the new plugins.

Note

It is your choice whether to install all the plugins on every poller, or just the required plugins. Keep in mind that you may encounter errors if you migrate a monitored host to a poller that happens to be missing the necessary plugins. If you update the plugins on the Centreon central server, be sure also to update them on each poller.
